Recognoscere.

Entry 52/365

Recognition.

from Latin recognoscere "acknowledge, recall to mind, know again; examine; certify," from re- "again" (see re-) + cognoscere "to get to know, recognize".

We sometimes spend a lifetime waiting for recognition, and we wait for this because recognition and appreciation are twin brothers intertwined and connected, bonded as one.

Being a mother is more about giving than receiving and it's also the ultimate form of love, so we can go on without any feeding back. But this is not true for every relationship I have. From my partner, I still expect recognition for my love, dedication, time, and effort even if it is not directed at him. OR FOR HIM.

I clean, and cook, and wash, and iron, and look after the little things. The things everyone doesn't notice but they are always there to be done. Not always do our priorities meet and I feel overwhelmed because I like to be done a certain way to a certain standard. This is when I crave recognition because I put so much of myself into these things that not noticing and appreciating them makes me sad.

It's good to put these into words and make my feeling concrete.

"A little appreciation does quite as much good as all the conscientious bringing up in the world." L.M. Montegomery

" Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. Voltaire
